April's coastal treasure - Stiffkey

Written by Georgia Dawson on

Stiffkey Stores, Stiffkey

Stiffkey is our coastal treasure of April 2018. Stiffkey is a beautiful village and civil parish on the north Norfolk coast. It is situated around 6km east of Wells-next-the-sea and around 6km west of Blakeney. Stiffkey is also around 40km north-west of the city of Norwich.

Things to do whilst visiting Stiffkey:

  • Explore Norfolk by foot via the Norfolk coast path.
The Norfolk coast path expands from Hunstanton to Sea Palling. The Stiffkey section of the Norfolk coast path will bring you breath-taking landscapes of saltmarshes, mudflats, creeks, and endless skylines. Perhaps pack your binoculars as the saltmarshes are a breeding place for birds – you never know what you might come across during your walk. Hop on a bike or stroll by foot and explore the Norfolk coast path.

  • Have a browse and a cup of coffee at the Stiffkey stores.
After a long day exploring Stiffkey, Stiffkey Stores is the perfect place for a mid-afternoon cup of delicious coffee. Under the summer sun, sit outside on the picnic benches and soak up the rays. Alternatively, on the cooler afternoons, pop in to one of their on-site beach huts for a refreshing and cosy break. With endless toys and books, Stiffkey Stores is ideal for children. Dogs are very welcome too. Whilst you’re there, have a browse at their gorgeous homeware and plants for sale.

  • Discover rich histories at the Rescue Wooden Boats Visitor Centre.
At the Rescue Wooden Boats Visitor Centre, the staff are dedicated to conserving maritime heritage. They are responsible for restoring examples of working wooden boats, each with a very rich history which is told through stories using film and photography. Visit the Visitor Centre to learn about the crafts and skills used.

  • Enjoy a hearty, well deserved meal and a brew at the Red lion.
Visit the Stiffkey Red Lion for a locally-sourced, fresh food. The warm and atmospheric bar with its roaring wood burner is perfect for those cooler days or dine under the sunshine in the al-fresco dining area to enjoy the warmth of summer. With regular events, such as quiz nights and an upcoming gin tasting evening, give the Red Lion a visit when in Stiffkey.

  • Participate in the truly memorable and enjoyable alpaca trekking.
For an interesting, fun-filled day in Stiffkey, become an alpaca trekker for the day by taking one or more alpacas for a beautiful walk along the bridleways and coastal paths at Wells-next-the-Sea & Stiffkey. Surrounded by stunning views across the saltmarshes to the sea, your guide will inform you of the history of the beautiful coastline.
