November's coastal treasure - Burnham Deepdale

Written by Georgia Dawson on

Burnham Deepdale, Norfolk

Burnham Deepdale is our November coastal treasure.

Located 8 miles from Wells-next-the-Sea and 9 miles from Hunstanton, Burnham Deepdale is a beautiful village on the north Norfolk coast. Burnham Deepdale is situated 2.7 miles north-west of Burnham Market and is one of the original seven Burnhams; Burnham Norton, Burnham Overy, Burnham Sutton, Burnham Thorpe, Burnham Ulph and Burnham Westgate and Burnham Deepdale.

Burnham Deepdale and its sister village Brancaster Staithe offer breath-taking coastal views across the marshes, delicious local food from The Jolly Sailors, The White Horse, Deepdale Café and The Crab Hut, and a wonderful shopping experience at the Deepdale Market. Burnham Deepdale is a delightful destination for a family break, a romantic retreat or a getaway with friends, no matter the time of year.

Burnham Deepdale is a fantastic location for birdwatching – the North Norfolk Coastal Path guides you along the stunning salt marshes, revealing an array of wildlife. It is no wonder this section of the coast is part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with gorgeous big skies, breath-taking landscapes and the magical Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve.

There is a wonderful range of places to stop for a bite to eat and a refreshing drink in Burnham Deepdale. The two fabulous seaside pubs, The White Horse and The Jolly Sailors, offer a delicious selection of family favourites, such as scampi and chips, steak & Brancaster ale pie, roast cod and Norfolk duck breast. Alternatively, if you love crab, you may wish to visit Simon Letzer at The Crab Hut; Mr. Letzer fishes from Brancaster Staithe in his boat and serves fresh filled baguettes using as much of his own produce as possible in The Crab Hut. However, if you would prefer a cup of tea and a slice of cake, why not head to the renowned Burnham Café, a family run cafe in Burnham Deepdale.

Burnham Deepdale, although small, is a brilliant place for a spot of shopping. Dalegate Market is an independent retail site, offering a range of shops including Fat Face, Deepdale Stores, Gone Crabbing, One Stop Nature Shop, The Hare & The Hen and the Deepdale Visitor Information Centre, plus more. Dalegate Market welcomes pop up shops during the summer months and is also home to the brilliant Deepdale Christmas Market. This year, the Christmas Market is taking place between 30th November – 2nd December, with over 130 stalls selling gifts, decorations, food and drink in three large marquees.
